How will you protect the women
When they say they don’t belong
When you cannot use the words
Women used all along
How will you protect yourself
In the places that once were safe
Now that they belong to others
Who have usurped your rightful place
Did you fight to save these spaces or
Did you say you didn’t care
That you didn’t have a problem
That others now were coming there
Did you listen to your sisters
When they said they didn’t need
To share these spaces for the reasons
That these others didn’t heed
Those that were attacked and beaten
Those that then did face much worse
Those that live each day with trauma
That these others could make worse
Did you fight back in your own way
With leaflets, stickers, placards too
Did you speak to those in power
Tell them that this wouldn’t do
When the words were taken from us
When they said that facts weren’t true
Did you shout them all the louder
Did you join in with our crew
Did you sit there oh so quietly
Agreeing with their lofty air
While they came for those around you
Hoping they won’t see you there
Did you realise it didn’t matter
No matter what you do or say
They will come for you as well
Because its you that’s in their way
They do not want their own spaces
They do not want us to be free
They want to impact in our places
They want women to cease to be
They want to show that they are stronger
They want to keep us in our place
The place that they created for us
A place that we will always hate
Will you now join with us fighters
To protect the things we all do need
To protect our words spaces
To join in with these radical deeds
You do not have to be as brave
As members that have gone before
Small deeds will always be welcome
In our radical feminist core
But we need you to take notice
To listen to our voices true
To speak up with the loudest voices
To join us in what we must do
How will you protect the women
With the words they have forbad
How will you protect the women
When we live in Gilead
